Already Approved for VA Benefits?

If you have already received a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA, submit a copy of it to your certifying official who will process your enrollment certification. An official copy of your DD214 may also be required.

Need Help Understanding Your VA Benefits?

Certifying Official

Once enrolled and registered for course(s) at University of Northwestern, you will be assigned to a certifying official who will be a liaison for you and the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

Your certifying official's main responsibility is to report course enrollment information—term dates and credit loads—to the VA in order for benefit payments to be disbursed.

Benefit Summary

All undergraduate and graduate offerings are certified as approved educational programs by the Minnesota State Approving Agency and the US Department of Veteran Affairs.

Students attending University of Northwestern – St. Paul may apply for and receive these educational benefits. A full description of these benefits are available at www.gibill.va.gov.

Post-9/11 GI Bill® - Chapter 33

Basic Eligibility: Service member who served on active duty on or after September 10, 2001, for at least 90 days. Learn more about the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.

Montgomery GI Bill® - MGIB Chapter 30

Basic Eligibility: Members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard who are on active duty or have been separated from active duty with an honorable discharge. Learn more about MGIB.

Montgomery GI Bill® - MGIB-SR Chapter 1606

Basic Eligibility: Members of the reserves components of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard; members of the Army National Guard and Air National Guard. Learn more about MGIB-SR.

Reserve Educational Assistance Program - REAP Chapter 1607

Basic Eligibility: Members of the reserve components of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, and members of the Army National Guard and Air National Guard who are called or ordered to active duty in response to war or national emergency as declared by the president or Congress. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Defense or the Department of Homeland Security. Learn more about REAP.

Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program - DEA Chapter 35

Basic Eligibility: Children or a spouse of a veteran who is permanently and totally disabled from service-connected causes; children or spouse of a veteran who died in service-connected causes; children or spouse of another qualifying veteran or serviceperson, such as one currently missing in action or captured in the line of duty. Yellow Ribbon Program - Traditional Undergraduate only

Basic Eligibility: Veterans entitled to a maximum benefit rate, as determined by service requirements, or their designated transferees may receive this funding. Your school must agree to participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Learn more about the Yellow Ribbon Program.
